Two Ingredient Bagels

This two ingredient bagels recipe is such an easy recipe to make. I know, I know. You’re going to look at the ingredient list and go “Girl, there’s more than two ingredients here. Can you even count?” I can! two-ingredient dough is a combination of plain greek yogurt and self rising flour. It’s also called weight watchers dough and it’s been circling the internet for years. The best part about this recipe is that it’s the easiest way to make bagels at home. No rise times, no yeast, no soda bath in boiling water. Just a simple dough you can make in minutes.

INGREDIENTS TO MAKE TWO INGREDIENT BAGELS

Self Rising Flour (or make your own! Check the FAQ’s!) I have not tried these with gluten-free self-rising flour, almond flour or coconut flour so I do not know how they will turn out. I’ve heard that you can use any type of self rising flour and these will come out great!

Non-fat Greek yogurt

OPTIONAL / TOTALLY RECOMMENDED

Egg whites – I like to use egg whites brushed on the top of the bagels to give it a quick egg wash, though this step isn’t necessary

Everything but the bagel seasoning – I’ve always bought this from trader joes. All of the grocery stores now have their own version of it and you can find it on amazon. Alternatively you can top these with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, parmesan cheese or any of your favorite toppings.

EQUIPTMENT YOU’LL NEED

I make these in the air fryer because they are fast and easy. If you don’t have an air fryer you can also bake these in the oven. Just line a baking sheet with some parchment paper and bake at 350F for 35-45 minutes.

You’ll also need a food scale. The reason you have so many issues with this recipe is because it’s generally listed as “1 cup flour, 1 cup greek yogurt”. You’ll never get the right measurement attempting to do it this way and you’ll either get super sticky dough or dough that’s falling apart and won’t hold. I list out the exact grams that I use in this recipe to get the perfect ball of dough every time.

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST TWO INGREDIENT BAGELS

In a large bowl add in flour and greek yogurt. Use a spoon to fold together until a shaggy dough forms. There will be a little excess flour in the bottom of the bowl. Keep folding together until 95% of the flour is gone.

Take the little extra flour from the bottom of the bowl and dump it onto a clean work surface (This should be a lightly floured surface). Split dough into two equal pieces. Roll each piece of dough until it becomes like a thick piece of rope. Pinch the ends together to form a circle. This should look like a bagel shape.

Lightly brush egg whites onto the top and top with everything but the bagel seasoning.

Cook in the airfryer at 350F for 10-12 minutes or until the outside has a light golden brown hue.

Cut two ingredient bagels in half and use low-fat cream cheese, light margarine or any fruit preserves to keep the calories low!

FAQ

I don’t have self rising flour. What can I use?

Self rising flour is ridiculously expensive for no reason but I’m going to let you in on a secret. 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4th tsp baking powder per cup of all purpose flour and you’ve made your own self-rising flour for a fraction of the cost.

What else can I make with this dough?

I have so many great recipes that use two ingredient dough like xyz xyz and xyz but one of the most common ways to use this two ingredient dough recipe is to make two-ingredient pizza dough. It makes a delicious homemade pizza crust that packs a little extra protein! You could also use it to make garlic knots or cinnamon rolls! Really the sky is the limit!

Why are your ratios different than everyone else’s?

The traditional dough recipe is 1 cup of nonfat greek yogurt, equal parts self-rising flour ( 1 cup of flour). This sounds easy as can be right? The only problem is the dough ball is so sticky and it’s impossible to use a rolling pin. Every recipe always said you’ll need a lightly floured work surface but really you needed to add so much additional flour that you had no idea what the calories were. Not ideal for someone following a low calorie diet.

What type of yogurt should I use?

I use non-fat greek yogurt, I’ve found that fage 0% and kirkland fat free greek yogurt work the best in this recipe. They are a thick greek yogurt that isn’t overly wet. If you tried to use regular yogurt you’d have to use 3 times the flour to be able to form it into a ball of dough.

Do I need a stand mixer?

I make this recipe a lot using a stand mixer, large mixing bowl and dough hook. This is purely because I’m lazy and I convinced jesse to buy me a very expensive stand mixer. I have to at least pretend I need it. Good news is you can just stir the greek yogurt and flour together using a spoon, it’ll take a little patience for it to come together but once it does it’ll be perfect.

WHAT ARE THE CALORIES / MACROS OF THIS EASY DOUGH?

Regular bagels are high calorie and unfortunately not very filling, because this recipe uses greek yogurt our protein content is way higher! You could even call these two ingredient protein bagels! Just don’t try to replace some of the flour with protein powder. I’ve tried, The consistency of the dough is horrible and you taste the protein powder. Simply put it’s not worth trying to squeeze a few extra grams in.
