WHY MAKE THIS STEAK FRIED RICE RECIPE?

Uses up leftover rice (and is a great way to get rid of leftovers!)

Easy and quick to make, perfect for a weeknight dinner

Can customize with your favorite vegetables or sauces – Got leftover cooked veggies? throw them in.

The whole family will love it!

Simple Ingredients:

1 TBSP Light Margarine (14g)

4 oz steak (Use whatever cuts of steak you want, I like flank steak and sirloin steak the best. If using leftover steak skip step 2)

3 TBSP Egg Beaters (liquid egg substitute) (46g)

2.5 Oz Frozen Green Peas & Carrots (70g)

Half a small white onion, diced (70g)

2 Cloves Garlic, Minced (10g)

Salt and Pepper

2 Cups cooked white rice, chilled (180g cooked weight / 90g raw/uncooked weight) – You can also use jasmine rice, brown rice, any day-old rice / cooked rice will do.

1 Green onion, chopped

1.5 TBSP Regular Soy Sauce or Dark soy sauce (23g)

1 tsp Oyster sauce (6g)

1/4th tsp Sesame Oil (1.16g)

HOW TO MAKE STEAK FRIED RICE:

Preheat a large skillet or large wok to medium-high heat.

Season steak with salt and black pepper to taste. Place in skillet and cook over medium heat for 3-5 minutes turning halfway through. Remove steak from pan and set aside. Don’t wipe skillet as we’ll use any leftover grease instead of using canola oil / vegetable oil / peanut oil.

Add in half of your light margarine, peas and carrots, onion and minced garlic, season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add in the rest of the ingredients except sesame oil, (margarine, rice, cooked steak, green onions, oyster sauce, soy sauce and egg beaters) stir until combined. Cook for 3-4 minutes. You want to make sure you are turning the rice so that it does not get stuck to the bottom of the pan.

Add in sesame oil and stir until fully combined.

Split into two equal sized portions.

Optionally top with sesame seeds as garnish.

CAN I MEAL PREP STEAK FRIED RICE:

Yes! This delicious steak stir fry rice can be meal prepped in advance. Double the recipe to get 4 large meal sized servings. This is an easy way to have a super filling and delicious lunch or dinner ready in the fridge. I find the savory flavor of this dish is even better the next day.  You can also serve this with a little bit of yum yum sauce to add in extra flavor.
